How I Met the Camera

It all began with my first camera as a kid. I vividly remember the square photographs it produced and how much fun I had using it on a family trip to Chicago. (I’m a midwestern girl at heart!) My dad was always an inspiration as he is an amazing photographer. He let me borrow his Canon f5 to learn photography the traditional way. It was built like a tank, as I discovered through various accidents! The dark room and I had many long days, but I loved every minute of it.

In college, I devoured all the photography classes – but didn’t give in to it as a career. It didn’t hit me that I could even make a living doing it until an employee there asked me if I wanted to assist him with a wedding or two. And then it happened – I fell in love. I already loved the camera, but it was in those first few weddings that I fell in love with capturing people and emotions and life. Up until that point I was shooting for the sake of creating art. At that point, I began shooting for others. Documenting moments. And making those moments themselves a work of art.

Since 2003, I’ve been documenting weddings, couples, families, and the dance of everyday life. I can’t say it any better than this. Capturing your story through the lens…this is my dream.
