I love it when people ask me questions, so don’t be shy! Here are some of the questions I am asked most often.
What makes you unique?
I love a good story. Capturing life as it unfolds is my favorite thing to do. Every place and every person has a story to tell.
I love making things look good. I have a strong eye for design and get absolutely giddy when I can take part in artistically creating things.
Do you shoot film or digital?
I learned photography on a film camera and developed my own prints in the dark room. Today I shoot digital and believe the quality of digital has finally caught up to that of film. I also from time to time will play around with my Diana camera, which is a medium format, plastic camera that captures surreal, soft, vintage looking images. If you’re interested in this look as part of your photoshoot, please let me know!
How many photographs will I get?
For a one hour family shoot you can expect 50+ final images.
For an 8 hour wedding shoot, you can expect 600+ final images.
Do I get to see every photo you shoot?
Every photograph is not going to make the final cut. I do the dirty work for you. There will be times when someone blinks, a child has snot running down their nose, or the lighting is just not right. My job is to deliver the photographs to you that are the best representation of our time together. Often I will take multiples of a group set-up, as many as an image per person in the group, just to get one photograph with everyone looking natural and no one blinking. I also don’t cull photos just to cull photos. Sometimes I will deliver technically imperfect images to you because they are important––a part of your story. Your final photo collection will be a complete narrative of our time together, full of photos you’ll be proud to show off.
Do you edit every photo? How much actual retouching is included in your prices?
Every single photograph is looked at as a piece of art. That means dodging, burning, sharpening, contrast, skin smoothing and color balance are all addressed to make sure your final photo is something you’ll be proud of. Minimal retouching is included in session prices. Major retouching, such as head-swapping in a group photo, digital plastic surgery, hair removal or removal of fly-aways, extra acne fixes, etc can be applied to individual prints though Pictage or myself for an additional hourly charge. If you do plan on printing a photograph larger than 16 by 20, please let me know as sometimes large prints can greatly benefit from extra retouching.
Do you work with another photographer at weddings?
Yes, for weddings. Although I’ve shot many weddings solo, and often do for destination weddings, I greatly prefer working with a 2nd photographer on your wedding day. Here’s why. Your wedding day will be filled with lots of happenings and events. I have been referred to as the “ninja photographer,” but even so, I cannot be everywhere at once! Having a 2nd shooter means I can stay with the bride while she’s getting ready and my other photographer can make sure to cover the groom and groomsmen preparing. It’s great to work as a team, capture different angles and have someone to assist me with lighting as needed.
Do you charge hourly or for the full day?
I specialize in narrative photography, and believe that capturing a full wedding or event is important. For shorter events or ceremonies, hourly pricing is available. Please contact me for details.
Family and portrait photography is priced per session – please inquire for specifics!
Do you charge for travel?
For anything further than 2 hours from my home, or requiring a ferry ride, I do have reasonable travel expenses. Please contact me for details.
How soon after the event or session are my proofs ready for viewing?
Your entire wedding or full day event will be edited and available for viewing within 4-6 weeks or sooner, depending on the amount of studio workflow at the time.
Your entire family or portrait session collection will be available within 2-3 weeks time.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I offer the first look at your photos through my website on a password protected gallery set to music. You will also receive a gallery on Pictage, an online photo gallery and lab, which is a convenient and fun way for you to share your photos with others. Your gallery is available for online viewing for 3 months, and may be extended past that at a minimal cost.
Do you have a professional print lab?
Yes. Professional prints and gallery-wrapped canvases are available in a wide variety of sizes from 4 by 6 up to 20 by 30, and may be easily ordered through your online gallery. I also offer canvas design consultations, to help you design the best place and configuration for your canvases to be displayed.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Beckie Kirker Photo retains ultimate copyright of all images and may use them for advertising/marketing purposes. Your photographs will never be used in any kind of demeaning or compromising way. It is understood that your photographs are precious memories and they will be treated as such. I will contact you if a photograph of you is selected for display in a magazine.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
High resolution digital photographs are available in most wedding packages, and may be added on to any package. You are purchasing the high resolution images with “Home Use Rights,” meaning you are entitled to print, create or use your photos however you wish for personal use. A detailed copyright description is provided for you with the digital photographs on disc. For the most part, if it doesn’t involve burning copies of the disc for others, resale, or photo-manipulation, it is probably okay. Please let me know if you have any questions about how you are able to use your photos.
What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer beautiful leather flush-mount albums of museum quality. Every album is custom designed by me in a classic and narrative design. Please inquire for more details.
Do you create Cards, Invitations or Monograms?
Absolutely! I love design and can custom create any one of these for you, based on any input or ideas you have. I work with printers and take care of that side of things as well, so you receive a unique finished product, with little-to-no work on your part, that’s ready to send or use. Please inquire for more details.
Do you have a certain photographic ‘style’?
I invite you to look through my work to see how I view the world. I love narrative photography – photography that tells your story. My hope is that you become wrapped up in the visual stories I tell and that you’d allow me the honor of telling yours.
What’s your idea of a perfect photoshoot?
The ultimate photoshoot is that in which you allow me into your world. I’d love for you to think of me when organizing your next event (big or small!), get-together or surprise. I challenge you to think of things you wouldn’t normally think of a photographer for, like getting your Christmas tree, visiting your Grandpa’s farm, proposing to your fiancé, or taking your child to their first swim lesson. These are the times in life, and the photographs, you will absolutely treasure in the years to come.
